First Winter at 4000 Feet

My beloved Alaskan Malamute, Max. He’s eleven-years-old now and seems grateful we moved up here.

Last October we moved to the northeastern edge of the Sierra Nevada, and although I’ve spent most of my life tramping around the Northern California mountains, it’s the first time I’ve actually lived full time above the snowline.

We chose a great year for the move:)

I’m looking out of my window as I write this. It looks like a holiday snow-globe out there. Simply beautiful. The locals are telling me they haven’t seen a winter like this since the 1980s. It’s a lot of work, and I’m not the man I used to be, but it’s worth it.

There was a break in the storms for a couple days. This is Max’s way of telling me he wants to be petted. Sadie, our one-year-old Bull Mastiff, doesn’t quite know what to make of it all.

How awesome! Snow makes winter feel so magical and I just love your pics. Max sure does look happy! That picture of him in the snow makes me think of one of our favorite movies, Eight Below. Take care and thanks for sharing. 🙂

Max is the most lovable beast. I haven’t seen Eight Below. I just added it to my “to watch” list.
